Time Machine – Lethbridge, 1908

A restored player-piano plays a random, minimal composition based on the amount of sunlight in Lethbridge in the year of 1908 (the year the gallery building was constructed).  35mm slides representing weather information (through colour and pattern) cross-dissolve onto a screen within a fireplace façade. Light sensors within the façade trigger the  piano mechanisms to sound strings while electromagnetic components cause a glissandi of harmonic drones to resonate. Two theatre seats are placed just out of hands-reach of the working keyboard.
