A Septal Plate Baffling; or, Some Small Sounds Surrounding a Shim

A Septal Plate Baffling; or, Some Small Sounds Surrounding a Shim involves reworking images from the mass-produced Time-Life 1977 Do-It-Yourself home improvement book, New Spaces for Living. The work combines hand-drawn animation, collage, projection-mapping, and automation of plywood surfaces through hand-built electronics, hobby motors, and visual programming.  Alongside the projected animations and moving surfaces are “live-foley” sounds produced by automating everyday objects (wire brush, springs, metal ruler, sharpening stone, etc.) within the same physical space of the work.

Installation of A Septal Plate Baffling (…) produced as Artist-in-Residence in Fiskars, Finland, July 2024.
